Want to get cheap or free produce?

Next time you see a produce item that is a bit damaged or past it's "freshest by" date, consider asking the produce manager for a discount. It's worked for me quite a few times. Just yesterday I scored 2 bags of organic romaine hearts for free! (retail price is $3.79 each). My motto is "never hurts to ask!"

I was surprised by this the other day, too. I was a co-op and I picked up an orange bell pepper. The clerk said that because it was wrinkly she'd take a dollar off, which made it 2.99. That's still a lot for a bell pepper, but an amazing deal for organic in winter in Minnesota.
