Family Nature Walk

When we all went for a walk tonight Zara wanted to collect some items to view with her magnifying glass. She got the idea from Sid the Science Kid. The walk was so nice, the baby even zonked out on the way back home!
This is what we came home with.


I'm guessing this is some sort of wasp nest, but I haven't looked it up. It it seems to be much lighter and more papery than other wasps nests I've seen before. No waxy residue like you would expect from bees. Any ideas?
